20世纪初，陈腐的满清王朝气数已尽，大厦将倾，外有西方列强磨刀霍霍，内有各路军阀诸侯相机而动，古老的中华大地进入了最黑暗以及最动荡的历史时期。在湖北的黄安县，三个有着不同家庭背景的男孩在同一天出生。他们进入同一家私塾念书，与美丽的姑娘方蕾、曹丽君青梅竹马，情同手足。时光荏苒，刘铜锣（赵文卓 饰）和方杠子（刘名洋 饰）、戴慧平（周航 饰）结拜成兄弟，殊不知他们的命运却由此紧紧扭结在一起。铜锣一度占山为王，逍遥自在。杠子和丽君加入了中国共产党，慧平则成为国民党的军人。几经周折，铜锣最终加入红军的队伍，投入到抗战的烈火之中。　　三个好兄弟在时代浪潮的推动下朝着不同的方向前进，而骨子里那份兄弟情义却是永远也无法磨灭的……
